"I have been a Registered Midwife since 1997 and I joined the team at
Maternity Matters in West Auckland at the beginning of 2010. For 11 years I
worked as an Independent midwife in the eastern suburbs of Auckland
providing antenatal, birth and postnatal care. Previous to this I worked in
Intensive Care Nursing and High Risk maternity Care.
I became a Midwife because I wanted to make a difference to women and their
families to enable their birthing journey to be a positive and enriched
experience. I enjoy working with women from different ethnic groups and
cultures. I believe midwifery is a partnership between the woman and the
midwife based on trust, in which decisions are made together in which the
best possible outcomes are achieved."
I was born in Pakistan and came to New Zealand when I was 17 years old. My
father is Australian and my mother Indian. I have two children who are now
grown up and are pursuing their own careers. I like going to the movies for
relaxation and I enjoy getting away camping with my husband in the
summertime on my days off call.
I used to be a Graphic artist and worked at Saatachi & Saatachi Advertising
as well as other advertising agencies for 15 years before deciding to train
as a nurse working in the Intensive Care Unit at Greenlane Hospital. I
changed to Midwifery after a few years and worked as a staff midwife at
National Women's High Risk Medical Clinic working with women who had
diabetes and other medical problems. I then became an Independent Midwife
working in a group Practice in Glen Innes before moving to Henderson and
joining Maternity Matters.
